Standard Tuning

We provide a fine tuning in equal temperament at A=440. Many pianos that have not been tuned in several years will require a pitch raise before fine tuning (see below), but if the pitch raise only takes a single pass before fine tuning, there is no additional charge.

For older pianos that very far out of tune and have visible oxidation, we may suggest tuning to a lower standard pitch, A=432 for example, and bringing it all the way up to A=440 on subsequent visits.

Many factors contribute to the shifting pitch of a piano including humidity, use, temperature, and even the evenness of the floor on which the piano sits. Regardless, we strive to not only fine tune your piano, but stabilize the strings to minimize any sudden shift in tension that may result in flattened pitch or imperfect unisons. Regardless, even the most stable tunings on the finest pianos will shift over the course of a few months. It is suggested by industry professionals to get your piano tuned every six months to a year, or quarterly for concert pianos, depending on use, purpose, and change in environment.

Even if it has been a while since your piano has been tuned and it sounds more or less "in tune with itself", we guarantee that it will sound significantly more beautiful and fulfilling to play after a proper tuning! There is nothing like a piano that has perfectly tuned octaves, unisons, and strings set at proper tension to produce the richness and intensity of tone for which they were made.

Pitch Raise & Stabilization

For pianos that are significantly flat (or for sharp, we will perform a pitch drop). Sequential passes bring strings safely up to pitch before fine-tuning.
